October 3, 2023 - Cameroon Sunbird (Cyanomitra oritis)
These sunbirds are found in forest undergrowth, around the edges of forests, and near streams in a small area around the border between Nigeria and Cameroon. Foraging alone or in pairs, they feed on insects and nectar, sometimes gathering in large groups at flowering trees. They build pear-shaped nests with porches from loose grass, rootlets, and moss lined with fiber and silk cotton. Females lay clutches of two eggs.
This copy of Kay Nielsen’s In Powder and Crinoline (1913) lived in someone’s art studio once- there’s paint on the cover and some plates. It has no spine. Pages are loose. But it has all but 2 plates, and here’s some of ‘em.
